About Saranai Ver (Horse Purslane Root)
Trianthema decandra, known as Horse Purslane, is an annual, prostrate, succulent, glabrous herb with slightly branched, long, angular stems. It occurs as a weed throughout peninsular India. The herbaceous, sparsely branched stem is procumbent, angular, and striate with a glabrous surface. The roots are cylindrical, gradually tapering, measuring up to 8 cm long and up to 0.5 cm in thickness. They have a brown, smooth surface with sparse lateral roots and a smooth fractured surface with thin bark and central whitish wood.
