About Paruthi Koodu (Cotton Tree)
The Paruthi plant, also known as the cotton plant, can grow up to 5 feet tall. It has heart-shaped leaves that are 3-5 lobed and can reach up to 6 inches across. The Mexican Cotton variety blooms in summer when grown outside, but can bloom any time of the year in a greenhouse. The flowers are white to yellowish and up to 3.5 inches across. These are followed by 1.5-inch long fruits that are 3-5 celled, each cell containing 5-11 seeds with copious lint and fuzz. The splitting capsules are well-armed, making it an uncomfortable plant to harvest by hand. Cotton plants have been cultivated worldwide for centuries as the source of cotton fibers.

- Crush red cotton boll and filter its juice. Taking 20 grams of the juice 2 to 3 times a day works as an antidote for any ingested poison.
