Nelli Kai/ Indian Gooseberry Dried (Raw)
The Indian gooseberry, known as Nelli in Tamil, is a straggling bush that grows up to 1.5 meters in height and width. The branches are thickly set with sharp spines that stand out singly or in diverging tufts of two or three from the bases of the short spurs or lateral leaf shoots. The bell-shaped flowers are produced singly or in pairs from the groups of rounded, deeply crenated 3 or 5-lobed leaves. The berries are smaller in wild gooseberries than in cultivated varieties, but often have good flavor. The berries are generally hairy, but there is a smooth variety as well. The color of the berries is usually green, but there are red, yellow, and white variants.
