About Mathulai vedu (Pomegranate)
Pomegranate is a shrub or small tree that grows up to 6 to 10 meters in height. The tree has multiple spiny branches and is known for its longevity, with some specimens living up to 200 years. The leaves are opposite or sub-opposite, glossy, narrow oblong, entire, 3–7 cm long, and 2 cm broad. The flowers are bright red, 3 cm in diameter, and have three to seven petals. Some fruitless varieties are grown for the flowers alone. The peel, bark, and leaves of the pomegranate are used for their medicinal properties.
