About Maampattai (Mango Bark)
The mango tree (Mangifera) is an evergreen, erect tree that can grow up to 20-45 meters in height. It features an oval, upright, dome-shaped crown and a stout trunk. This long-lived tree, known to bear fruit for 250-300 years, has linear-oblong, lanceolate-elliptical leaves that are pointed on both ends and arranged in a spiral pattern on the branches, emitting a soothing aroma. The tree produces red, yellow, and green flowers in panicles, with around 3000 flowers in each. The large drupes, varying in shape and size, contain yellow thick pulp and a single oblong seed covered by a hard shell.
