About Kunkuma Poo (Saffron Flower)
Saffron Flower, grown mostly in Kashmir, India, is known for being the world's most expensive spice by weight. This beautiful flower grows up to 40 cm in length and emerges from the ground. In autumn, purple buds appear, and by October, the flower develops its brilliantly hued flowers, ranging from light pastel lilac to darker mauve. The flower averages less than 30 cm in height. Inside each flower is a three-pronged style, with each prong terminating in a crimson stigma, 2.5-3 cm in length.
