About Kal Thamarai / Kumarika Leaves:
Kal Thamarai is an armed or unarmed climber with leathery, shining leaves that are broadly ovate to elliptic with a rounded or shortly wedge-shaped base. The leaf stalks are 1.5 cm long with a sheathing base and tendrils at the end. The plant produces white flowers in dense umbels in the leaf axils, typically 1-3 flowers on a common peduncle, with ovate bracts. The perianth of mature flowers is recurved, with outer segments being 4 mm long and oblong, and inner segments being narrower. Stamens are about the same length as the perianth. This plant is widely distributed in forests, hillsides, and shaded places along valleys in India.
