Agarwood is found at an altitude of 1500 m above sea level. The mature heartwood of the tree is aromatic due to fungal pathogenesis. When the wood of the tree is infected by fungi at wounds, it develops resin-filled patches that become aromatic over several years. Agarwood is a key ingredient in Agarbatti or incense sticks. In Ayurveda, Agarwood is used as a perfume, stimulant, cholagogue, and deobstruent (clears or opens the natural ducts of the fluids and secretions of the body).
